Visa, NEST Fintech Bootcamp in Nairobi selects 10 startups
The recently concluded Visa ( the largest payment solution) and Nest ( a global accelerator and early-stage tech investor) Bootcamp which was held in Nairobi at the Metta, saw up to 10 FinTech startups get selected to come up with ideas, co-create and develop solutions around financial literacy and financial inclusion in Africa.
The bootcamp saw a pool of 122 applicants from 12 countries which include Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana, South Africa and many others.
The Visa Bootcamp’s intensive content is designed to fuel all early-stage FinTech companies with a vision to revolutionize financial services for Africans with financial inclusion and peer-to-peer or merchant payments being of specific focus to this program.
Visa Country Manager for East Africa, Sunny Walia said, “The finalists will get the opportunity to gain knowledge and insights from experts at Visa, as well as gain access to Visa API’s and tools, and Nest’s resources to scale their start-up through Africa and beyond.”

- Okhi : Location, picture and mobile based solution to facilitate onboarding/ verification process for financial institutions.
- Eat Out Kenya : Kenya mobile based payments and rewards solutions for restaurants.
- Kwanji : Affordable and accessible FX execution platform for African SMEs.
- Overview Technologies : Mobile money based personal financial management application and payments solution.
- Lakt : Personal financial management and financial literacy app targeting millennials.
- SokoWatch: Feature phone enabled consumer product fulfillment solution between informal retailers and large FMCG distributors.
- Ajala Studios : Native language and speech processing application deployable within financial institutions.
- Data Intergrated : Mobile point of sale solutions for SMEs.
- Bamba POS : Cloud based mobile point of sale and inventory management solution for SMEs.
- Lipisha : Value added mobile payments aggregator for businesses.
