Uber Eats is set to launch in Egypt later in 2018

After one year of Operation in South AfricaUber announced that it will be launching its food delivery service, Uber Eats, in Egypt later sometime in 2018. The service, already available in over 200 cities around the world including some in Afrika, will first be launched in Cairo.  The announcement was part of Uber’s continued investment in the North Afrikan country which is its largest market on the continent as far as ride-hailing is concerned.

“The expansion comes on the back of Uber Eats’ success in the UAE, where orders grew by 169% in the 2nd semester of 2017 only, and the number of restaurants opening their doors on the app increased twofold, to more than a thousand active today,” read Uber’s press statement announcing the upcoming launch of Uber Eats in Cairo.

The food delivery service will also be launching in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh during 2018 as part of its expansion in Arab speaking countries. “While we’re a global business with a presence in more than 30 countries around the world, our recipe for success is built on catering to the local taste of the cities we operate in. That’s why we’re doubling down on creating a localized version of the app that meets the needs of the Arabic speaking population,” said Nic Robertson, General Manager of the Middle East and Africa at Uber Eats.

Part of the fast adoption of Uber Eats has to do with the app’s availability on Android. During January 2018 Uber Eats is celebrating 2 years since it first launched on Android. in 2016, the Uber Eats Android app won an Editor’s Choice Award from the Google Play Store.

“We have already seen huge demand from hundreds of local restaurants who want to work with us to make their food available to more people by opening their virtual doors on Uber Eats. We encourage any restaurant owners who want to know more about partnering with Uber Eats to get in touch,” said Robertson.
