UberEats a fast food delivery service launches in South Africa

UberEATS, an on-demand food delivery service run by Uber, the world’s popular ride hailing service, is now available in Cape Town, the 60th city in the world to have the service.

Uber first announced it will launch the service in Africa (and South Africa) back in June 2016. It eventually launched the service in Johannesburg in September last year.

UberEATS is essentially Uber but for food. The service delivers the best of a city’s dishes right when customers want them using Uber rides.

The app has a curated menu which feature dishes from the local restaurants customers love and the ones they’ve always wanted to try (but haven’t due to one reason or the other).

Requesting meals via UberEATS is as simple as requesting an Uber – tap the app, place an order, and the food gets delivered right at their doorstep!

The launch in Cape Town means residents can now order meals from their favourite restaurants at the tap of a button. Already, restaurants such as Nü, Gibsons Gourmet Burgers & Ribs, Bacini’s, Truth Coffee Roasting and Crumbs and Cream are on the app.

To use the service, Cape Town residents should do the following:

  • Download the app or head to ubereats.com and sign up or sign in with your Uber login details,
  • Add your home, work, or any other address you’d like to have your meals delivered to,
  • Search for your favourite local spot or try something new,
  • Pay with your card already on file and enjoy free delivery for a limited time,
  • Then, sit back, relax and watch as your order is prepared, picked up, and delivered right to your door.

They can order meals on the app from 10 AM to 10 PM 7 days a week for flat delivery fee of R20.

Cape Town is the second city in South Africa (and Africa) to have the service – Johannesburg was the first. In the coming months, UberEATS is expected to launch in Gauteng, and hopefully across the continent.
