Kenya’s Mobile subscription Hits 26 million

The mobile industry is growing at a high rate all round Africa, people owning handsets from smartphones  to Symbian phones. The technology industry is growing so much compared to few years ago. Recently GSMA held a function releasing their data statistics for all round Africa per the countries.

Mats Granryd – Director General of GSMA says that,

over 46% percent of Africa’s population is currently connected, mobile internet has tripled over the past five years.

a third of the population coming from the largest markets in Africa , Egypt , South Africa and Nigeria  while Kenya coming in sixth with the number of smartphone connected around Africa estimating  to 226 million.

Dr Omobola Johnson – Alliance for affordable internet  says,

Africa’s connection to the internet  is growing slow compare to the other countries in Europe and other parts of the world.

Kenya had an estimation of about 38.3 million subscriptions by march 2016 data coming from the Communications Authority, the actual data for unique users being 12 million less.

Kenechi Okeleke – Data analyst for GSMA says,

Africa’s whole average SIM per subscriber was 1.6, stating that most of the people having more that one SIM card, and for Kenya that’s about 26 million subscriptions.

GSMA expects Africa to have the fastest growth in subscription in the next five years  but Technological Literacy, Poor coverage of networks  and high cost in economy being barriers in growth.

Mats Granryd – Director General of GSMA says that,

Africa is a large continent and it has taken us a lot of time to to completely cover and we are close to yet.
