Kenya’s Bamba Group raises $250k on Lions’ Den

Kenyan data collection startup Bamba Group has raised KES25 million (US$250,000) from Darshan Chandaria after taking part in the Lions’ Den pitching television show.

Launched three years ago, Bamba Group is revolutionising the way data is collected, using SMS, app and web data collection software to enable clients to communicate, survey and obtain feedback from beneficiaries, clients, suppliers and the public.

The startup recently took part in the Lions’ Den television show, the Kenyan version of the popular US pitching show Shark Tank, and walked away with US$250,000 in funding from investor Darshan Chandaria.

This comes after Bamba Group earlier this year became the first East African company to take part in the Techstars accelerator held in Austin, Texas, gaining US$100,000 in investment in the process.

Bamba Group co-founders Shehzad Tejani and Harman Johar pitched to the Lions’ Den investors, with Chandaria ultimately investing. He is the director of Chandaria Group.

The startup will use the money for expanding its operations throughout parts of Africa and South America.
