Jumia has launched a new category, Jumia Fresh. Jumia Fresh comes with a promise of delivering fresh farm produce such as fruits and vegetables within a period of four hours. The time frame (four hours) put the service in a better position to flourish in the market. One of the greatest challenges Kenyan farmers face is the risk of their products to go bad. The amount of time it takes for the product to reach the market is long. This delay is brought about by a number of reasons. Some of these reasons include poor state of the roads, bad weather conditions, and lack of ready market for the farm produce. At the moment, Jumia Fresh has no capacity to control the latter (hopefully they’ll form a model to address it).

Jumia is partnering with local fresh produce suppliers in Nairobi (at the moment) for an effective and efficient supply of the farm produce.

As Jumia’s managing director, Sam Chappatte puts it;

This is our way of bringing Mama mboga closer to you by allowing you to shop at the best prices and at your convenience either from home or office.

In addition, customers will get free delivery on orders not less than 500 KES. Some of the current competitors on the market right now such as Zucchini Greengrocers and Foodplus have been given a blow to the face when it comes to pricing and delivery time.

E-commerce industry in Kenya has been briskly moving with new innovation breakthroughs, making it an essential part of the economic activities. According to research conducted by Ventureburn about countries with booming e-commerce markets, Kenya snatched #2 spot with iGDP of 2.9%.
