Nigeria’s Farmcrowdy seeks to help farmers find funders

Agriculture in Africa is one of the main hobbies we practice and its also a source of lively hood in many homes. Farmcrowdy a Nigerian startup launched last year seeks to help the nigerian community by allowing you to own a farm without you actualy being the farmer.

Farmcrowdy is Divided into different farms suitable for the Nigerian soil and climate, so the interested party has to select a farm of his/ her interest, contacts farmcrowdy, then in business terms farmcrowdy agrees with the farmers at a certain percantage of the  price  paid  (20%).

“He approached me for help with regards to finance and I had tried to use my experience to raise funds to help him sustain the farm, but they were not forthcoming , At the time, I could not understand why people were not interested in agriculture. So I decided to use my knowledge in technology to create a platform that will encourage people to participate in farming.”   Farmcrowdy came to co-founder Onyeka Akumah says  after experiencing an encounter with a friend who had lost a farm due luck of funds .

Farmcrowdy intends to expand on its services and regions both locally and countrywise :

“As we look at going up the value-chain to improve the processing, packaging, storage, logistics and marketing of our farmers farm produce, we are daily discovering new levels of opportunities to grow our bottom-line,” Akumah said.

Currently, the startup operates in two regions in Nigeria – the South-Western states of Oyo and Ogun, and Plateau State – but its goal is to have an impact on over 10,000 farmers across the country by the end of the year.

This could be a nice impact to the agricultural sector.  farmers who depend on this will find this as a great solution to funding and finding the markets for their products. Basing some east african and Central African countries that have good climate conditions and some of the crops dying un attended and lack of markets could enhance developments in this areas.
